Set well back from the street face, the two storey addition to this single level Victorian terrace is barely visible.
A welcoming surprise element results as the internal spaces unfold to those passing from the old to the new sections of the dwelling. Period detailing gives way to square set cornicing, shadow line skirting boards and floor to ceiling retractable glass wall panels. New wide recycled polished floor boards extend throughout the new and old portions of the house, tying the two halves together. As the house unfolds, the sequence of spaces increases in scale, culminating in grand open space for casual living. This spacious new living area embraces the garden beyond, the rear wall being fully glazed and retractable. At the core of the addition, natural light floods the stairwell from the glass roof above.
A successful balance has been struck in this project between quiet elegance and functional necessity.
